Did you know that 50% of Australians don't get the fibre they need?

Slice it, squeeze it, or eat it straight from the tree - fruit is vital to a healthy diet.

Fruit juice versus fruit

Which is better for you?

Fruit is an essential part of any healthy diet. And for many of us, fruit juice has become the quick and convenient way to get our daily dose. But are we missing out by not eating fruit in its natural, raw form?

Many fresh fruits contain more nutrients and fibre because pasteurisation of juices can destroy some vitamins and minerals. However, fruit juice can contain vitamins and nutrients as well. Sometimes vitamins and nutrients are even added.

High in vitamin C, orange juice has many positive health benefits, and calcium is sometimes added too. Many fruits maintain their beneficial properties in juice form. Along with eating fresh fruit, drinking 100 percent fruit juice does count toward your recommended nine-a-day servings of fruits and vegetables.

In the end, any fruit is good fruit. But unless you know exactly which nutrients have been added to your juice, go for the raw equivalent whenever you can.
